C’River hails surge in Obudu Mountain Resort patronage

The Cross River government says Obudu Mountain Resort now receives about 3,500 guests monthly, up from 500.

Mr. Sunday Michael, Special Adviser to Gov. Bassey Otu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.

He said the rise, which he described as “over 600 per cent”, would grow further as rehabilitation continues.

He said the resort had “undergone a remarkable transformation” from what the Otu administration inherited.

“We adopted a holistic strategy, beginning with a full redesign supported by a 3D concept plan,” he said.

He said key facilities, including the conference centre, spa, wellness centre and golf course, had been upgraded.

“We now have reliable power after repairing existing plants and acquiring backup generators,” he added.

He said the water park was fully rehabilitated and the resort thoroughly cleaned, restoring its appeal.

Michael said daily power supply had risen from under 10 hours to between 15 and 18 hours.

He said monthly revenue had increased from less than N15 million to about N50 million.

He said the state was working to attract foreign investors to sustain the resort’s revival.

“Attracting foreign investors is a key priority, and we are creating an enabling environment,” he said.

He said Governor Otu’s commitment had strengthened investor confidence in the project.

Michael also praised the Federal Government for its N5 billion investment in the resort.

“We are grateful for the President’s support and the governor’s collaboration,” he said.

He said much of the fund would develop a 3-megawatt hydropower plant to provide stable electricity.
