Tinubu praises UN, EU, partners for advancing Nigeria’s 3MTT project

President Bola Tinubu has expressed appreciation to the United Nations, European Union, and other key stakeholders for their support in advancing Nigeria’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Project, an initiative aimed at bridging the country’s digital skills gap.

The commendation came during the 3MTT National Summit 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy in Abuja on Thursday.

Launched in October 2023, the 3MTT program attracted over 1.8 million applications from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, reflecting the growing demand for digital and technical skills among Nigerian youth.

Tinubu, speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, emphasised that the initiative was designed to scale and sustain the development of technical skills nationwide.

He urged young Nigerians to remain focused on contributing to the country’s digital transformation.

He highlighted the role of private sector partners in strengthening the program, naming IHS Towers, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Google, Microsoft, Huawei, and Moniepoint, among others, who have provided expertise, resources, and credibility.

“The realisation of this vision depends on continued collaboration between government, the private sector, and the development community.

”Our administration is fully committed to ensuring the growth and expansion of this initiative,” Tinubu stated.

The UN representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Beatrice Eyong, described the project as a demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to reform, courage, and forward-looking policies.

She said the 3MTT initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda signals the readiness of Nigeria’s youth to actively shape their future in the global digital economy.

“Nigeria is building its digital economy with both clarity and urgency. When leadership meets courage, history changes.

”UNDP and the UN family are proud to partner with Nigeria on this journey,” she remarked.

Similarly, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, highlighted the EU’s involvement under the Global Gateway strategy.

He emphasided that the partnership is focused on leveraging investments from both public and private sources to create employment, promote prosperity, and empower youth.

Mignot noted that the collaboration also opens avenues for industry-standard certification, fostering stronger commercial ties between Nigeria and the EU in the technology sector.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared that the first phase of the 3MTT programme has already generated 15,000 direct jobs, with average monthly earnings exceeding N250,000.

He emphasised that continued private sector participation is vital for the program’s expansion, noting that significant funding and strong endowment structures will be necessary to sustain the initiative.

The summit reinforced the government’s commitment to cultivating a generation of digitally skilled professionals, enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy, and ensuring that youth are at the center of national development.

Tinubu and his administration expressed their determination to maintain strong collaboration between government, international partners, and industry leaders to ensure the long-term success of the 3MTT project.
