Umar Chuso takes charge as Nasarawa State Commissioner of police

Umar Chuso has officially assumed the role of Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, taking over from Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College in Jos as Deputy Commandant.

Chuso becomes the 30th police commissioner to oversee law enforcement operations in the state.

The transition followed recent political developments, including the suspension of the Lafia Local Government chairman, Muhammad Arabo, which triggered changes in the state’s police leadership.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, highlighted Chuso’s extensive operational experience, strong administrative skills, and distinguished record in the force.

The new commissioner hails from Sokoto South Local Government Area in Sokoto State and holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Chuso joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.

Over his career, he has served in key roles including Deputy Commandant at Police Staff College, Jos, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kano State (Operations and CID), Assistant Commissioner of Police in Delta State, and Pioneer Area Commander in Argungu, Kebbi State.

He has also been CSP Admin in Kebbi, Divisional Police Officer in multiple divisions across Sokoto State, and Officer in Charge at FCID (Interpol), Abuja.

He has participated in numerous professional programs both locally and abroad, such as leadership and tactical courses, human rights protection training in the United States, military strategy training in Abuja, and advanced detective training.

Chuso is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS) and enjoys reading and playing badminton. He is married with children.

In his first address to the state, Commissioner Chuso appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious organisations, and residents to work closely with the police by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention.

He pledged to protect lives and property, maintain peace, and ensure safety throughout Nasarawa State.

Chuso also called for ongoing collaboration with all stakeholders to address and reduce criminal activities in the state, assuring residents of a proactive approach to policing.
