Katsina police arrest suspect in murder of nursing mother, infant

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, in connection with the brutal killing of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said Rabi’u allegedly lured the victims to a remote area of the village, where they were murdered.
Police investigations revealed that the killings stemmed from a paternity dispute involving the nursing mother, which escalated into the fatal attack.
According to the police, Rabi’u conspired with at least one accomplice who is still at large to eliminate both the mother and her child. Following the killings, the suspects reportedly burned the bodies before disposing of them in a nearby well.
“The victims’ bodies have been recovered, and the suspect is currently in custody.
”Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice,” DSP Aliyu said.
During questioning, Rabi’u allegedly confessed to his role in the crime, implicating his accomplice in the plot.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemned the killings as “barbaric and inhumane” and assured the public that the police would pursue the case diligently to ensure justice.
He urged residents to provide any information that could assist in capturing the remaining suspect, reassuring that all tips would be treated confidentially.
The command further stated that updates on the investigation would be shared with the public as the case develops.
