Ganduje suspends plan to form independent hisbah organisation in Kano

Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has put on hold plans to create an independent Hisbah organisation in the state, following consultations with key stakeholders and security agencies.
The decision emerged from a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, which brought together representatives from all 44 local government areas, party officials from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and officials of the Department of State Services (DSS).
A statement issued by Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan Agundi on behalf of Ganduje confirmed that the initiative had been withdrawn “in the interest of peace and stability.”
The statement read: “The attempt to establish an independent Hisbah group in Kano State has been withdrawn and suspended.”
The proposal had generated widespread public concern, prompting intervention from the Kano State Government and security agencies.
The consultative meeting provided a platform to address potential tensions and maintain public order.
Participants agreed to suspend the creation of the Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah, while allowing the state government to review ongoing allegations related to the Kano State Hisbah Commission.
Stakeholders emphasised the importance of respecting established authority and cooperating with security agencies to ensure law and order across the state.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from all parties to safeguard peace, security, and stability in Kano State and the country at large.
