Former senator Peter Nwaoboshi dies, Delta governor mourns

A former member of the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has passed away after a prolonged illness.

His death was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon.

Senator Nwaoboshi represented the Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.

Reacting to the news, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, described the late senator’s death as a profound loss to Delta State, the Anioma people, and Nigeria as a whole.

The governor hailed Nwaoboshi as a distinguished and courageous leader who consistently stood for the interests of the Anioma nation.

He noted that the former senator made significant contributions to national development, particularly during his time as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, where he was a strong advocate for the development of the Niger Delta region.

Oborevwori also highlighted Nwaoboshi’s political journey, describing it as one rooted in strong political heritage, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals.

These qualities, he said, earned him the opportunity to serve twice as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.

Expressing his condolences, the governor sympathised with the Nwaoboshi family, the Anioma people, members of the APC, and all those affected by the senator’s passing.

He described the late lawmaker as a devoted public servant whose legacy of courage, loyalty, and dedication to service would endure.

Senator Nwaoboshi is remembered for his years of service to his constituents, his party, and the nation, leaving behind a notable imprint on Delta State politics and Nigeria’s legislative history.
