Nigeria sees improved power supply after repair of vandalised gas pipeline

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has reported a notable improvement in electricity generation following the repair and restoration of the Lagos-Escravos gas supply infrastructure, which had been vandalised.
According to NISO, the repair, carried out by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), has boosted gas supply to several key thermal power plants, contributing to stabilising the national grid and improving electricity reliability across the country.
“Currently, gradual power offtake is being carried out by the affected plants to ensure a smooth recovery and maintain the stability of both the gas supply network and the national electricity grid,” NISO stated.
”The measured approach aimed to prevent system stress and ensure a reliable supply for industries, businesses, and households.
”Other thermal power plants remain on standby, awaiting confirmation of gas supply from their respective suppliers.
”These plants will be integrated into the national grid to further strengthen generation capacity and reduce the risk of outages, ” he said.
NISO added that it continued to coordinate closely with power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory bodies to monitor developments and address operational challenges in real time.
Consumers are encouraged to continue practicing energy conservation as efforts to stabilise supply progress.
The restoration comes after reports of poor power supply in recent weeks, offering hope for improved electricity stability in Nigeria.
