Bayelsa education trust fund seeks stronger media collaboration

The Bayelsa Educational Trust Fund (EDTF) has called for a closer partnership with the media to help raise awareness about its mandate and initiatives.
Chief Fidelis Agbiki, Chairman of EDTF, made the appeal on Thursday during a familiarisation visit with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa Council.
He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Professor Ebimieowei Etebu, and members of the newly inaugurated Board—the third since the fund’s establishment.
Agbiki emphasised the importance of journalists as key stakeholders in community development.
“We are here to introduce the new board and to thank the media for past support.
”We hope to continue building this relationship, because being a friend of the press is being a friend of the community,” he said.
Professor Ebimieowei Etebu encouraged journalists to support the board’s initiatives, noting that educating society is crucial for progress.
“The media plays an essential role in delivering accurate information, and we are inspired to work with you because you have the ears of the public,” he added.
Tife Owolabi, Chairman of the NUJ Federated Correspondents’ Chapel in Bayelsa, welcomed the visit and commended the EDTF for valuing the media.
He urged the board to ensure journalists have the opportunity to verify and cross-check information, reinforcing transparency in reporting.
The EDTF aims to leverage media partnerships to enhance public understanding of its educational programs and community impact.
