Sanwo-Olu urges fair selection in Akran succession

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, has warned the Badagry royal council against manipulation in choosing the next Akran following the death of the late Aholu Menu Toyi I.
Sanwo-Olu conveyed the message during a condolence visit to the Akran’s family and palace on Thursday, emphasising the importance of unity and peace in the community.
The late Akran passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, after a brief illness.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Robert, the governor appealed to both the royal council and residents to uphold the values of transparency and cohesion during the succession process.
“I’m appealing to you to do the right thing. Badagry is one; do not allow anything to divide you. I am always with you,” Sanwo-Olu said, urging the community to maintain the harmony established by the late Akran.
Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, echoed the governor’s call, pledging to follow the directives and promote peace in the area.
Princess Adesola Akran-Oketunde, eldest daughter of the late Akran, expressed gratitude to the governor and his delegation, appealing for continued support for the family and efforts to preserve stability in Badagry.
The visit underlined the state government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and fair transition in the leadership of one of Lagos State’s prominent traditional institutions.
