Okowa backs Tinubu’s reforms, urges patience

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold steps toward long-term national stability.

He said although the reforms came with early difficulties, they were deliberately designed to secure a sustainable future for Nigeria.

Speaking in Agbor during the flag-off of the Uromi Junction Flyover, Okowa urged Nigerians to assess the reforms objectively rather than emotionally.

According to him, evidence of improvement is already visible in public finance management across the country.

Okowa noted that many states and local governments were now paying workers’ salaries more consistently.

He added that pensions and gratuities long owed to retirees were also being settled, attributing the progress to federal economic policies.

Drawing from his experience in governance, the former governor said President Tinubu was restructuring the economy with courage and foresight.

He maintained that while the reforms may be painful initially, their long-term benefits will outweigh present discomfort.

Okowa revealed that he rarely attends commissioning or groundbreaking ceremonies after leaving office.

However, he said the Agbor flyover project compelled his presence because of its importance and symbolism.

The former governor praised the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a leader of integrity and consistency.

He said Oborevwori’s commitment to continuity and trust has given him peace as a former governor.

Okowa commended the scale of infrastructure projects under the current administration, citing the N59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover as a standout initiative.

He also mentioned other major projects in Delta North as proof of balanced development.

Okowa applauded Governor Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the federal government.

He described the move as strategic and beneficial to the state’s long-term development.

Reflecting on earlier political decisions, Okowa said what many doubted in the past is now unfolding clearly.

He expressed pride in seeing development plans transition from ideas to completed projects.

Okowa expressed optimism about Nigeria’s direction under President Tinubu.

He prayed for continued peace and progress for Delta State, Ika Nation, and the country at large.
