NNU leadership vows active engagement towards regional development

In a robust defense of the Ndokwa National Union’s (NNU) leadership, President General, Chief Amechi Asugwuni has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to active dialogue with government authorities and sustained grassroots engagement aimed at advancing development across the Ndokwa nation.

Speaking on behalf of the NNU National Executive Council, Asugwuni highlighted the achievements of the current administration.

He also emphasised its unwavering engagement with key stakeholders since taking office less than a year ago.

“The leadership has consistently pursued meaningful consultations to promote the collective interests of our people,” he said, pointing to meetings held in November and December 2025 with the Minister of Power and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He noted that outcomes from these engagements were formally documented and positively received by members, adding that further discussions were reportedly scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

Asugwuni cautioned against what he termed “deliberate attempts to mislead the public and tarnish the leadership’s reputation under political pretenses.”

He stressed that claims suggesting a lack of dialogue were unfounded.

On the sensitive issue of creating Anioma State, the NNU President General stated that the matter had been thoroughly discussed during the 2025 Ndokwa Annual General Conference on December 30, 2025.

He added that many critics who have recently raised concerns were not present at the conference.

Asugwuni assured that the union would continue consultations with relevant stakeholders to secure outcomes in the best interest of the Ndokwa people.

In line with its commitment to community engagement, the NNU leadership announced plans to hold town hall meetings across the three Ndokwa local government areas.

These sessions would provide a platform for dialogue on pressing issues, including the Okpai Independent Power Project, oil revenue review, security, leadership accountability, and the promotion of moral values.

Highlighting the administration’s outreach efforts, Asugwuni stated that the current leadership had engaged grassroots communities, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders more extensively than any previous administration, despite being in office for less than one year.

Calling for unity and support from the Ndokwa people, the NNU President General said, “the task before us is enormous and requires focus, consistency, and collective dedication.

”We urge all members to foster a culture that ensures the success of the union for the benefit of all.”

The NNU’s renewed emphasis on dialogue and community participation marks a significant step in its efforts to consolidate development initiatives and strengthen governance within the Ndokwa nation.
