Eno flags off Ibom CNG transit terminal

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to governance and service delivery, insisting that emerging political activities will not distract his government from executing key development projects.
The governor spoke on Saturday while inaugurating the construction of the Ibom Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Terminal located between Obio Offot and Ikot Akpe communities in Uyo Local Government Area.
He described governance as a solemn responsibility and pledged to remain focused on fulfilling campaign promises to the people of the state.
Eno said his administration would not be drawn into political distractions as the next election cycle gradually approaches, stressing that priority would remain on infrastructure delivery and economic development.
He added that political appointments to boards and similar positions would be limited to members of the All Progressives Congress, while encouraging residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and align formally with the party.
Announcing progress on the mass transit initiative, the governor disclosed that the state government has ordered and fully paid for the first batch of 50 CNG-powered buses, which are expected to be delivered by April 2026.
He said the buses would strengthen public transportation, reduce fuel costs, and promote cleaner energy use across the state.
The governor also highlighted other transport-related projects completed or nearing completion, including the Marine Terminal in Oron, the international wing of the Victor Attah International Airport, and the operations of Ibom Air.
According to him, these projects are part of a broader strategy to position Akwa Ibom as a hub for tourism, investment, and business.
Welcoming the governor, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udoh, praised the choice of location for the terminal, describing the project as a major boost to local economic activity that would lower transportation costs and create employment opportunities.
Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, said the CNG Mass Transit Terminal would occupy about 62,000 square metres and house modern facilities, including a transport terminal, CNG filling station, maintenance workshop, training school, police post, loading bays, restaurant, VIP lounge, shopping area, administrative offices, and an automated car wash.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekpo, described the project as timely, noting that it aligns with the Federal Government’s Presidential CNG Initiative aimed at providing affordable, sustainable transport while reducing reliance on petrol.
The Managing Director of Alpha Diaz Projects Limited, Mr Alexander Eleftheriads, said the terminal is designed as a modern mobility hub and will include a technical training school capable of training about 600 people annually.
He assured that construction would be completed within six months.
Project Delivery Adviser on Transport, Hon. Orman Esin, described the CNG terminal as a flagship project of the Eno administration, saying it would significantly improve mobility and transform intra-state transportation in Akwa Ibom State.
