Hensard University plans tribute for late Bayelsa deputy governor

Hensard University, Toru Orua, has announced plans to immortalise the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, in recognition of his enduring service and impact on the state.
The Chancellor of the university and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this on Monday.
He stated that the institution’s governing board would soon set up a special committee to recommend an appropriate form of honour.
According to him, the gesture is aimed at preserving the memory and values of a leader whose contributions extended beyond public office.
Senator Dickson assured that Hensard University’s planned tribute would be meaningful and enduring, aligning with the institution’s values of leadership, excellence, and service to humanity.
Speaking during a press briefing at his country home in Toru Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, Senator Dickson described the death of Ewhrudjakpor as a painful loss, not only to Bayelsa State but to the wider Nigerian society.
He noted that the late deputy governor was known for his humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service.
The press conference, which was broadcast live on radio and streamed across social media platforms, was organised to appreciate the numerous individuals and groups who showed solidarity with the Ewhrudjakpor family and the government of Bayelsa State during the burial ceremonies.
Senator Dickson expressed deep gratitude for the support, prayers, and presence of dignitaries, community leaders, and ordinary citizens who travelled from far and near to pay their last respects.
He described the overwhelming show of love as a testament to the character and influence of the late deputy governor.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with Ewhrudjakpor, the former governor recalled years of shared public service, describing him as a dependable ally, a principled leader, and a man of peace.
He added that Ewhrudjakpor’s legacy of integrity and selfless service would continue to inspire future generations.
