Kogi shuts schools temporarily over security measures

The Kogi State Government has ordered a temporary closure of all schools across the state as a precautionary measure to protect pupils, students, and teachers.

The closure, which moves the midterm break forward, will last until February 16, 2026.

Reuben Jimoh, Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi, confirmed the emergency adjustment to the school calendar.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, stressed that the decision was proactive, not panic-driven, emphasising the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives while maintaining continuity in education.

Fanwo noted that Governor Usman Ododo has instructed relevant agencies to deploy measures that will allow schools to resume academic activities safely.

He also praised security agencies for providing timely intelligence, highlighting the effectiveness of Kogi’s security network.

The state government reassured parents and the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and neutralize potential threats, with minimal disruption expected to the academic calendar.
