Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde calls for courageous, selfless leadership In Nigeria

Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has urged Nigerians to seek leaders who are willing to make ultimate sacrifices for the country, stressing that national progress hinges on selfless leadership.
In an interview on Rubbin’ Minds aired Sunday, on Channels Television, the 48-year-old star said Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in leadership, not its citizens.
She argued that leaders must prioritise national interest above personal gain or fear for their safety.
“Until we find leaders in Nigeria who are ready to die for this country, we haven’t started. When a leader says, ‘I am ready to die,’ that’s when real change begins,” Omotola said.
She clarified that her call was not for violence but for courage, conviction, and integrity.
Omotola also warned against tribal politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as destructive and unnecessary.
Recounting her own experience, she alleged voter suppression at her polling unit during the last election, driven by ethnic bias.
“You cannot suppress a human being.
”You’ll only make people angry and push them towards revolt. If you convince people instead, you can find ways to work together,” she said.
Emphasising national unity, Omotola described herself as a true Nigerian, with cultural ties across the country.
She praised the entrepreneurial spirit in regions like Aba, asserting that Nigeria has the capacity to compete with global economies if united and focused.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country. We’re better than Dubai if we’re serious, and we’re better than China,” she added.
Her remarks highlight a call for courage, accountability, and unity in leadership as Nigeria approaches its next general elections.
