NDLEA officer killed in Bonny Island raid

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has confirmed the death of one of its officers during a raid in Bonny Island, Rivers State.

The operation, held last Friday in the Ama Hausa area, led to the arrest of six suspected drug traffickers.

NDLEA said officers seized cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk (cannabis), and tramadol during the raid.

The exercise reportedly turned violent when armed hoodlums allegedly mobilised by the suspects attacked operatives.

Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid sustained fatal head injuries in the clash.

He was taken to Bonny Island General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Despite the attack, NDLEA successfully arrested all six suspects, including alleged gang leader Genesis George Benson.

The other suspects are ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), praised the courage and dedication of the fallen officer.

He extended condolences to Mujahid’s family, colleagues, and the Rivers State Command of NDLEA.

Marwa warned that attacks on NDLEA personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The agency said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The suspects would be charged to court after preliminary inquiries are completed.
