Police nab robbery suspect, recover locally made pistol in Delta

The Police Command in Delta on Thursday, says it has arrested an armed robbery suspect in the state.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen in Warri.
He said that the suspect was apprehended on Monday by police operatives attached to the Ozoro Police Division in Isoko North Local Government Area (LGA).
According to him, the police team was on a proactive township patrol on Hospital Road in Ozoro, when they nabbed the suspect.
“A search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of a locally made beretta pistol.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of Aye confraternity, and was in possession of the gun because he is a member of the cult group,” he said.
Edafe said that the suspect confessed to have been in possession of the gun since his days in the secondary school.
He said that investigation in the matter is still ongoing.
The spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the command, Mr Aina Adesola, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism.
Edafe quoted the CP to have
reiterates the command’s commitment to intensify visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations and targeted patrols, to deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate within the state.
He further said that the CP urged the public to remain law-abiding and to provide credible and timely information to the police.
“Collective cooperation remains critical in sustaining peace and security across Delta,” he said.
