Ondo police nab suspected kidnappers, recover firearms in Ayede town

In a decisive move against the rising spate of kidnapping and violent crimes in Ondo State, the Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms and live ammunition in Odo Ala, Ayede Town, located in the Akure North Local Government Area.

The breakthrough was confirmed by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, who said the operation formed part of the ongoing intelligence-led strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.

“On February 12 at approximately 0948 hours, operatives of the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a targeted operation in the area,” Jimoh said.

He identified the suspects as Okotie Phillip and Michael Akinjisoye, noting that both were immediately apprehended without incident.

A thorough search of the suspects revealed the possession of one single-barrel rifle and 18 live cartridges, which were reportedly concealed on their persons.

“The recovered items underscore the dangerous intent and capability of these individuals,” Jimoh added.

Following their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody and provided useful statements to investigators.

The police spokesperson emphasised that ongoing efforts are focused on tracking down additional cohorts and mapping out the full extent of the suspects’ criminal network.

The operation received commendation from the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who lauded the operatives for their prompt, professional, and intelligence-driven approach.

Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that no effort would be spared in keeping the state safe from criminal elements.

“The command remains resolute in its fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.

”We urge members of the public to continue providing actionable intelligence to help us rid the state of criminal activities,” Jimoh quoted the Commissioner as saying.

The arrests are seen as a significant victory for law enforcement in Ondo State, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation and intelligence-led policing in curbing crime.

Residents were encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities via the command’s official channels to enhance public safety.

This development comes amid heightened security awareness in the state, following a series of reported kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in various communities.

Authorities have reiterated that sustained vigilance and proactive policing remain key in safeguarding citizens against criminal threats.
