In a major boost to education and student welfare, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the 2025 bursary awards for students in both public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The approval also extended to scholarships for students with disabilities, children of deceased civil servants, and financial support for Delta State students attending the Nigerian Law Schools.

The announcement was made on Thursday, by Dr. Godfrey Enita, the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, during a meeting with the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) national executives.

Enita highlighted that Governor Oborevwori’s gesture was aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly in light of current economic challenges.

“The meeting with student leaders was convened following concerns over delays in the 2025 bursary payment.

“The state government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations, and the board has already commenced processing payments for all approved bursaries and scholarships, ” he said.

The Executive Secretary disclosed that a total of 33,064 students across Delta State will benefit from the 2025 bursary awards.

In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities would receive scholarships, while 533 students at the Nigerian Law Schools would receive a special financial assistance package.

Enita emphasised that the Oborevwori administration views education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and human capital advancement in the state.

He reassured the student body that the government was fully committed to supporting learners at all levels.

Responding to the announcement, NADESSTU national executives, led by President Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph and Senate President Comrade Idiseru Alex, welcomed the development, describing it as both timely and impactful.

They expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his continued dedication to Delta State students and their welfare.

The student leaders noted that the bursary and scholarship approvals would significantly reduce financial strain for many families and pledged their continued support to the Delta State Government.

“We commend Governor Oborevwori for his responsiveness and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Deltans,” Comrade Joseph said.

This move underscores the state government’s prioritisation of education as a key pillar of development, reflecting its commitment to empowering students and promoting equitable access to educational opportunities across Delta State.
