Oluremi Tinubu honoured for girl-child education

Senator Oluremi Tinubu was recognised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) for her contributions to girl-child education and hygiene in Nigeria.

The accolade was conferred during OAFLAD’s 29th and 30th Ordinary General Assemblies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with Mrs Tinubu represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima on her behalf.

Partners including Auda-NEPAD and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation praised her interventions reducing maternal and child mortality and supporting mothers and children.

OAFLAD’s “We Are Equal” campaign promotes gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and access to education across Africa, highlighting continent-wide development goals.

The Assembly stressed the need for African nations to collaborate in addressing challenges facing women and children, particularly in conflict-affected regions.

First Ladies, including Dr. Fatima Maada Bio and Lordina Mahama, commended Mrs Tinubu’s advocacy for women-focused initiatives.

Dr. Bio emphasised that sustainable development and peace are linked, and women’s rights cannot thrive in unstable environments.

Ghana’s First Lady highlighted the importance of investing in girl-child education and supporting women artisans for sustainable livelihoods.
