Fubara mourns Sen. Mpigi, describes late lawmaker as dedicated leader

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi.

Mpigi represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor described the late senator as a brother and consummate politician.

He said Mpigi was one of the leading lights in Rivers State politics.

‘Services Still Needed’
Fubara said the senator’s death came at a critical period for the state.

According to him, Mpigi’s experience and commitment to public service were still required.
He prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

The governor also extended condolences to the senator’s immediate family.

He urged the people of Rivers South-East and members of the Senate to take solace in Mpigi’s impactful life.

Senator Mpigi died at the age of 64.
Until his passing, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.

During the 9th Assembly, he chaired a joint Senate Committee that investigated crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

Colleagues have continued to pay tribute to his contributions to legislative oversight and regional development.
