Oborevwori tasks agencies to boost Delta economy

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has challenged the leadership of the Delta State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (DESAA) and the Delta State Local Content Agency to drive economic growth, enforce institutional reforms, and support the state’s MORE Agenda.

The directive was given during a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday at Government House, Asaba.

Oborevwori expressed confidence that the new appointees, Mr. Sebastian Okoh for DESAA and Chief Stanley Kakor for the Local Content Agency, would deliver on their mandates and justify the trust placed in them.

He described the event as a milestone in his administration’s push for a diversified and resilient economy.

DESAA, created under the 2015 Signage and Advertisement Agency Law, is responsible for controlling and monitoring all outdoor advertisements across the state.

The governor emphasised that, with Delta’s strategic location in the southern economic corridor, unregulated signage has become a challenge that DESAA must address.

Okoh was commended for his experience and ability to reposition the agency to align with global standards.

Oborevwori called on him to ensure that DESAA enforces the law, reduces visual pollution, and maintains transparency in all operations.

The Delta State Local Content Agency, established in 2020, is tasked with promoting local participation in the oil and gas sector, particularly in host communities.

The agency ensures companies comply with the 70 percent local content mandate and patronize local contractors.

Oborevwori explained that the agency also monitors compliance with agreements between companies, communities, and the state government.

By enforcing these arrangements, the Governor said, the agency could reduce conflicts, foster trust, and encourage sustainable partnerships.

Chief Kakor, the new Director-General, was urged to maintain fairness, accountability, and efficiency, aligning the agency’s activities with the strategic MORE Agenda.

Oborevwori highlighted that the effectiveness of both agencies depends on close cooperation with key stakeholders, including government ministries, the private sector, and community leaders.

He advised the appointees to familiarize themselves with policy documents and laws to ensure compliance and effective governance.

He added that the work of these agencies is critical for economic stability, peace, and long-term growth in Delta State.

In response, Mr. Okoh pledged loyalty and dedication to the state, promising to carry out his responsibilities without fear or favour.

Chief Kakor also assured that the Local Content Agency would operate within the law while actively promoting community empowerment.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top government officials, political appointees, and other dignitaries, underscoring the administration’s commitment to institutional reform and sustainable development.
