Woman killed after petrol tanker crashes shop in Lagos

A petrol tanker lost control and crushed a woman in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State on Saturday, emergency officials confirmed.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the tanker reportedly suffered a mechanical fault, ran over a bystander, and smashed into a roadside shop, trapping a teenage girl.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the teenager was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The tanker, with registration EKY 900 XY, collided with a Toyota Corolla (AAA 823 XY) before hitting the shop, causing structural damage and panic among traders and pedestrians.
One person died, while four others sustained minor injuries but were safely extricated.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) corroborated the incident, confirming the fatality and the rescue of the injured.
Emergency protocols were promptly activated to manage the scene and clear the wreckage.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident while ensuring safety and recovery operations in the area.
