Tinubu urges governors to prioritise poor

President Bola Tinubu has urged state governors to adopt policies that uplift the poor and empower vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
He made the appeal while hosting governors to an interfaith breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The President said the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent highlights shared values of sacrifice, discipline and compassion among Muslims and Christians.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu called for deeper reflection on the needs of struggling citizens.
He said both holy seasons present leaders with an opportunity to design programmes that directly improve grassroots livelihoods.
Tinubu commended the governors for their commitment to unity and national development.
He, however, stressed that more must be done to reduce poverty and create opportunities for young Nigerians.
The President urged state leaders to build inclusive structures that reflect faith, harmony and collective sacrifice.
He welcomed Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and acknowledged his presence at the gathering.
Tinubu also referenced recent developments in Ebonyi State, advising its leadership to balance justice with mercy.
He praised Babagana Zulum for extending Ramadan outreach programmes to both Muslims and Christians in Borno State.
The President described the gesture as a demonstration of unity and religious tolerance.
Addressing the governors, Tinubu said development must cut across religious and ethnic lines.
He called for targeted efforts to reach neglected youths, struggling families and underserved communities.
The President declared that Nigeria was emerging from economic uncertainty.
He expressed optimism about improving economic indicators and promised sustained reforms.
Tinubu reiterated his commitment to establishing state police to tackle insecurity nationwide.
He said decentralised policing would strengthen local security while preserving national cohesion.
Security, he noted, remains the bedrock of prosperity and economic growth.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration’s promises would be fulfilled without delay.
He urged leaders to remain united in efforts to stabilise the country and expand opportunity for all citizens.
Tinubu concluded that with cooperation and resolve, Nigeria’s future remains bright.
