Cross River Assembly suspends lawmaker over alleged violent conduct

The Cross River State House of Assembly has placed Dickson Ovat Agbor, representing Obubra I State Constituency, on indefinite suspension due to allegations of violent behavior.

The motion for suspension, moved by Hon. Davies Etta and seconded by Hon. Francis Asuquo, described Agbor’s actions as “conduct unbecoming of a lawmaker” and contrary to ethical standards.

In addition to the suspension, the Assembly established a committee to investigate the incident and report back for further action. Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms following the House’s directive.

The Speaker, Rt Hon. Elvert Ayambem emphasised the Assembly’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and the dignity of the legislature, urging members to uphold the trust reposed in them by the public.

The suspension would remain effective until the committee completes its investigation.

This move underscores the Assembly’s stance on maintaining decorum and accountability among its members.
