Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave after receiving approval from President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official break since taking office in May 2023.
According to a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will use the leave for personal development, policy study and strategic reflection aimed at enhancing his capacity to serve the country more effectively.
The statement explained that “During the period, the Vice President will devote time to study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for continued service to the nation.”
It added that the break would also allow Shettima to assess the administration’s ongoing programmes, gain deeper insights into emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating several government initiatives, including economic development, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He has also presided over meetings of the National Economic Council, where governors, the Central Bank Governor and other top government officials deliberate on policies affecting Nigeria’s economy and citizens’ welfare.
Beyond domestic responsibilities, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at high-level regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
Reaffirming his dedication to public service, the statement said “Senator Shettima remains deeply committed to the ideals of loyalty, duty and service that have defined his role in the administration, as well as to supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.”
The Presidency confirmed that the Vice President will resume his official duties immediately after the expiration of the two-week leave.
