Domestic staff stand trial for alleged murder of Justice Ajumogobia’s daughter

Justice Ibironke Harrison of the Lagos High Court is presiding over the case of two domestic staff, Abigail Peter and Olusegun Olatunji, accused of murdering their employer, Chuchu Ajumogobia, the daughter of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, a Federal High Court judge. Chuchu’s father, Soboma Ajumogobia, is also the brother of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odeon Ajumogobia.
At Thursday’s hearing, DSP Gafar Oderinde, the Investigating Police Officer, presented a video of the suspects after their arrest.
He testified that Chuchu’s body was discovered at the entrance of her parents’ home in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He added that the security guard on duty, Umaru Mohammed, had been poisoned with an unknown substance to incapacitate him, while the security dog was restrained, preventing it from alerting anyone during the crime.
Evidence recovered from the suspects, including laptops, clothing with blood stains, and human hair, has been submitted to forensic experts for DNA testing.
Justice Harrison adjourned the proceedings to March 12 for the cross-examination of the fourth prosecution witness.
The defendants, Abigail, 21, the housemaid, and Olusegun, 35, the driver, allegedly conspired to stab Chuchu to death with scissors on July 30, 2024, around 11 pm.
A two-count charge was filed against them by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, Babajide Martins, in February 2025. Both pleaded not guilty when arraigned in April 2025.
Earlier witnesses include a forensic pathologist from LASUTH, Sunday Soyemi, the complainant and brother of the deceased, Awonaribo Ajumogobia, and Inspector Tope Ijatuyi of the Ikoyi Police Division, who testified about the initial investigation and post-mortem findings.
The trial continues as the court seeks to examine the prosecution’s evidence against the accused and determine their culpability in the high-profile murder case.
