Council of legal education approves 114 universities for law programmes in Nigeria

The Council of Legal Education has officially released a list of 114 universities authorized to offer Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes in Nigeria.

The circular, signed by the council’s Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, emphasised that only universities on this list are permitted to admit students for law studies.

The circular stated that any institution operating outside this approval would face sanctions, and students from unapproved programmes would not be eligible to enter the Nigerian Law School.

It added that the council would continue updating the list in line with its mandate to regulate legal education.

The approved universities span across all states and the Federal Capital Territory, including federal, state, and private institutions. Notably, some universities, such as Baze University (Abuja) and Lead City University (Ibadan), are under a temporary moratorium for specific academic sessions.

This directive ensures compliance with legal education regulations and safeguards the integrity of the nation’s law training system.
