Delta approves N80bn roads to boost creek economy

The Delta State Government has approved N80 billion for the construction of roads in the state’s riverine and creek communities, a move the Commissioner for Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure, Mr. Ebikeme Clark, says will stimulate economic growth.

Clark made the disclosure in a statement on Monday, noting that the approval was granted by the State Executive Council during its recent meeting at the Government House, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Oborevwori for his sustained commitment to developing historically underserved coastal areas through massive infrastructural projects.

He described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the administration’s determination to open up the coastal regions, improve accessibility, and enhance socio-economic activities.

The projects include the construction of Macaulay/Mitubiri Roads in Bomadi, internal roads spanning 2.45 km in Odimodi and 3.75 km in Ogulagha, both in Burutu LGA.

Others include internal roads in Patani; the 9.463 km Torugbene–Ojobo Road with a spur to Ojobo Town in Burutu LGA (Section Two); and the boundary road connecting Ogbinbri and Ogbudugbudu communities in Egbema Kingdom, Warri North LGA.

Clark described these interventions as “life-changing,” promising to ease transportation challenges, improve connectivity, and promote commerce in riverine communities.

He assured residents that the governor remained committed to balanced development across Delta State and encouraged them to support government initiatives and cooperate with contractors to ensure timely project completion.

He further noted that the ongoing infrastructural transformation would likely translate into strong electoral support for the governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
