Ondo police arrest 21-year-old over alleged rape, murder of elderly woman

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, for allegedly raping and killing 75-year-old Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa-Akoko, Akoko North-East.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, the arrest followed credible intelligence and an investigation that traced the deceased’s missing phone to the suspect.

Anthony reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting to both the sexual assault and strangulation of the victim.

The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at the police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

The police assured the public that justice will be diligently pursued.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about violent crimes in the state and the importance of swift police response and community vigilance.
