Hijab-clad woman vanishes with toddler at burial

A three-year-old girl has gone missing after a suspected abduction during a burial ceremony in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local government area of Delta State, leaving her family in distress and triggering a police investigation.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 7, 2026, in the Ogwashi-Uku area, where residents had gathered for a funeral in the Hausa community.
According to the child’s father, a 33-year-old suya vendor, Abubakar Isiaka,
the suspect, a woman dressed in a hijab—arrived at their compound in broad daylight, speaking Hausa and pretending to be a visitor seeking directions.
He explained that the woman approached his wife and requested help locating another resident in the area.
Trusting her, the family allowed their older daughter to guide the visitor, while the missing child followed them.
Moments later, the suspect allegedly handed the older sibling a small amount of money to buy biscuits. By the time the girl returned, both the woman and the toddler had disappeared without a trace.
The missing child, identified as Sheripha and aged three years and eight months, has not been seen since the incident.
Family members and community residents immediately launched a search, combing the area and alerting vigilante groups, but their efforts have so far yielded no results.
“We have not slept since this happened,” the distraught father said, appealing to authorities.
”“We are pleading with the police and the government to help us bring our child back.”
Police authorities in Delta State have confirmed the case and say investigations are ongoing.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP),
stated that efforts are underway to track down the suspect and any possible accomplices involved in the abduction.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, particularly during public gatherings, as concerns grow over child safety in crowded events.
