The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned that manufacturers continuing to produce sachet alcoholic drinks despite the existing ban may face serious consequences.
Director-General of the agency, Mojisola Adeyeye, said some producers had continued to violate the regulation despite repeated warnings and adequate time given to comply.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Adeyeye expressed concern over what she described as a flagrant disregard for the ban, warning that regulatory measures would be taken against offending companies and individuals.
She said NAFDAC was already considering further actions to ensure compliance and protect public health.
The warning follows recent enforcement activities by the agency, including the sealing of some companies found producing banned sachet alcoholic beverages.
NAFDAC has maintained that the restriction on sachet alcohol production is aimed at reducing public health risks associated with the easy availability and consumption of high-alcohol-content products, particularly among vulnerable groups.
Adeyeye urged manufacturers to comply with regulatory requirements, stressing that the agency would not hesitate to act against businesses that violate established safety standards.
