Plateau relaxes Jos North curfew

The Plateau State Government has announced a relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following recent violence in Angwan Rukuba.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the administration led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang said the decision was based on fresh security assessments indicating a return of relative calm in the affected communities.

The curfew, which had restricted movement across the area, has now been eased to allow residents resume their daily activities within controlled hours.

According to the government, the new directive takes effect from April 1, 2026, permitting movement between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day.

Residents were urged to make use of the window to carry out lawful activities while complying strictly with security guidelines put in place by authorities.

The state government emphasised the need for continued vigilance, calling on citizens to remain calm, cooperative, and law-abiding as security agencies sustain surveillance and patrol operations to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

It assured that efforts were ongoing to consolidate peace and forestall further unrest in the area.

The statement, signed by Joyce Lohya Ramnap, also commended residents for their resilience and cooperation during the curfew, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
