The Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a man who lived a fulfilled and impactful life.

Fubara joined residents and stakeholders across Rivers State on Friday night to honour the late lawmaker, who until his death represented the Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The governor made these remarks during a Service of Songs held at the Missionary Anglican Church Koroma in Tai Local Government Area.

Reflecting on the life of the deceased, Fubara noted that Mpigi would be remembered for his resilience and contributions to society.

He described the late senator as “a fighter” whose legacy would endure through the works he accomplished while alive.

The governor also spoke on the inevitability of death, stating that it remains the final chapter of human existence, beyond the control of any individual.

”There are things we have control over, but death is not one of them. It is the ultimate end of everything.

”We cannot add to or take away from our lifespan. When it comes, it comes, ” he said.

Fubara recalled that he had earlier extended his condolences to the family through a formal letter and a personal visit following the news of Mpigi’s death.

He reiterated his admiration for the late senator, saying, “He lived a great life. He was a fighter whose time has come and gone. We will remember him for the great works he did.”

Addressing the bereaved family, the governor urged them to remain strong in the face of their loss, acknowledging that no gathering or human effort could fully ease their grief.

“Our presence here is not enough to console you.

”Only God can comfort you and fill the vacuum left behind,” he said, concluding with a prayer for the peaceful repose of the deceased.

Fubara also expressed appreciation to members of the National Assembly and the people of Koroma community who attended the solemn event to pay their last respects.

He prayed for their safe return to their respective destinations.
