PDP alleges police role in secretariat takeover

The (PDP) faction led by has accused the of backing what it described as an unlawful takeover of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by individuals it referred to as “APC apologists.”
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) alleged that security operatives unsealed the party’s headquarters and enabled its takeover and occupation by agents of the Federal Government and members of the (APC), who it claimed were posing as PDP members.
The statement noted that the action was taken despite a pending appeal challenging the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, delivered by , which reportedly formed the basis of the police intervention.
“By their action, they have tampered with the res, and that can render the judgment of the Court of Appeal nugatory, when it is eventually given,” the statement said, describing the development as “most shameful.”
The PDP faction further accused the police of acting in a partisan manner, expressing disappointment with the leadership of the force.
It stated that officers had “consistently acted in a manner that leaves no one in doubt as to their support” for rival factions allegedly aligned with the ruling party.
Despite the tension, the Turaki-led group called on its members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, urging them not to engage in activities capable of breaching public order, while assuring that the matter would be pursued through legal channels.
The crisis is part of a broader leadership struggle within the PDP, involving competing claims and internal divisions. Key figures in the dispute include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as well as a bloc associated with Oyo State Governor, and Bauchi State Governor.
The prolonged dispute has led to parallel leadership structures, a series of legal battles, and growing concerns over the cohesion of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, the faction aligned with Wike had yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
