Dangote named among TIME 100 influential people

African industrialist and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has been named in TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026, further cementing his position as one of the most influential business figures globally.

The annual TIME100 list, published on April 15, 2026, recognises individuals whose leadership and impact are shaping global politics, business, technology, and culture. Dangote is the only Nigerian featured in this year’s edition.

He appears in the “Titans” category alongside global business and institutional figures, reflecting his continued influence in industrial development and large-scale economic transformation across Africa.

This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the prestigious list, having first been recognised in 2014 for his contributions to business expansion and philanthropy.

Other global figures featured in the 2026 list include political leaders such as Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Mark Carney, as well as Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church.

From the technology sector, executives including Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan also appear on the list, highlighting the growing influence of digital innovation in shaping global systems.

In the “Pioneers” category, TIME highlighted breakthroughs in science and medicine, including advances in genetic therapy and heart transplant readiness, while the entertainment section features global cultural figures such as Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson.

Dangote, who is the founder and president of the Dangote Group, has built a business empire spanning cement production, agriculture, food processing, infrastructure, and energy, significantly expanding Africa’s industrial base.

TIME described his vision as one focused on leveraging local resources to build globally competitive industries, noting his ongoing investments in energy and manufacturing as key drivers of economic transformation on the continent.

His philanthropic efforts through the Aliko Dangote Foundation were also recognised, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, nutrition, and disaster relief across Africa.

Dangote has also outlined an ambitious “Vision 2030” strategy aimed at transforming his conglomerate into a $100 billion global enterprise.

The plan is structured in phases, beginning with expansion and optimisation of existing operations between 2025 and 2028.

The second phase, from 2028 to 2030, is expected to focus on diversification into new sectors such as steel production, power generation, and port infrastructure, aimed at strengthening Africa’s industrial capacity.

His inclusion in the TIME100 list highlights increasing global recognition of African business leadership and underscores Dangote’s role as a central figure in the continent’s economic development narrative.
