Amaechi links PDP exit to Jonathan, wife

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has alleged that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, orchestrated his removal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Amaechi made the claim during an interview on Channels Television, where he spoke on political developments in Rivers State and his exit from the party.

According to the former Rivers State governor, the Jonathans took control of the PDP’s political structure in the state, effectively sidelining him.

He alleged that the party machinery was handed over to other political actors, leaving him with no option but to leave.

“The country knew what happened. I was pushed out,” he said, insisting that the move was deliberate and coordinated.

Amaechi further claimed that his ordeal was connected to his tenure as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, a position he held during a politically tense period.

He suggested that internal disagreements at the national level contributed to the breakdown of his relationship with the party leadership at the time.

Following his departure from the PDP, Rotimi Amaechi later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he became a prominent figure and served as minister.

He has since aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), continuing his political career within a different platform.

The allegations have reignited discussions around political rivalries and party control in Rivers State, particularly during the Jonathan administration.

Neither Goodluck Jonathan nor Patience Jonathan has publicly responded to the claims at the time of reporting.

The development underscores ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, where internal party disputes and power struggles often shape political alignments.

Amaechi’s remarks add to a growing list of narratives surrounding past political transitions and leadership conflicts within major parties in the country.
