Soludo introduces open voting for APGA primaries

The Governor of Anambra State and national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chukwuma Soludo, has announced the adoption of the Option A4 voting system for the party’s forthcoming primaries, in a move aimed at improving transparency and reducing electoral malpractice.
Soludo made the declaration during the South-East zonal convention of the party held at the International Convention Centre in Awka, where he also issued a strong warning against bribery, favouritism, and the monetisation of the primary election process.
Explaining the new arrangement, the governor said the Option A4 system, where voters openly queue behind their preferred candidates, would help eliminate vote buying and manipulation often associated with secret ballot voting.
“We are going to adopt Option A4 in all our primary elections this season.
”The essence is that once you look back and see a long line behind you, you know you are winning,” he said.
He criticised what he described as the increasing trend of treating party primaries as a financial opportunity, warning that such practices weaken candidates ahead of general elections and undermine internal democracy.
Soludo also directed that all aspirants must commit to contesting only one elective position at a time, stressing that dual or multiple ambitions would no longer be tolerated within the party.
“If you want to run for a position, make up your mind. We will not allow people to hold one office and still be preparing for another,” he said.
The governor also prohibited aspirants from visiting party executives at their homes to offer inducements, insisting that all political engagements must take place within official party offices.
Earlier at the convention, the National Chairman of APGA, Sly Ezeokenwa, presented a code of conduct designed to strengthen discipline and promote internal democracy within the party.
He reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to reforming internal processes and restoring credibility in preparation for future elections
