Okpebholo promises 50-year lifespan for Edo roads

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo has assured residents that road projects under his administration are being constructed to last over five decades.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the governor said his administration is prioritising quality infrastructure with proper drainage systems and long-term durability in mind.

“There is no road that we are building that will not last more than 30, 40, 50 years. You see the proper drainage. I am not playing politics with it. This is real,” he said.

Okpebholo stressed that his government is focused on delivering visible and lasting development rather than political promises, adding that current projects are being executed using federal allocations.

“It is President Tinubu’s money we are using to develop Edo now,” he stated.
The governor, who described himself as a “rescuer” of the state, reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Edo into a modern urban centre.

“I am the rescuer of Edo State, that is what I am. I want to build a modern Edo City. That is what I stand for, and I am in a hurry to do it,” he said.

He also addressed concerns over compensation for communities affected by construction projects, assuring residents that due process would be followed.

“Nobody will cry in Edo that is not fully compensated,” he assured.

On ongoing infrastructure works, Okpebholo disclosed that the Ramat Park flyover project, which began about a year and four months ago, is expected to be completed within the next three months.

The governor reiterated that his administration remains committed to rapid urban renewal and sustainable infrastructure development across the state.
