Tinubu sends Tegbe, Umar, Enikanolaiye names to senate

President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of Joseph Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, alongside other key appointments in a reshuffle of his administration.
The request was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
In the letter, the President relied on Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint ministers subject to Senate confirmation, urging lawmakers to give the request prompt consideration.
Also included in the nominations were Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State, and Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
Tegbe had earlier been nominated as Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
A statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that the nomination was already transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State like his predecessor, brings over 35 years of experience across public and private sector leadership roles.
Before his nomination, he served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led reforms in fiscal policy, governance, and institutional transformation.
He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on regulatory frameworks, investment strategy, and economic reform.
Tegbe previously served as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he worked on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China.
The Senate is expected to consider the nominations in the coming days as part of ongoing executive appointments aimed at reshaping key sectors of the economy, particularly the power and petroleum regulatory space.
