Police arrest 3 women over drug trafficking in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested three women suspected of engaging in illicit drug trafficking in parts of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists in Warri.

Edafe said the suspects were apprehended on Thursday during a covert operation carried out by operatives attached to the Effurun Area Command.

According to him, the arrests followed credible intelligence reports linking the women to alleged drug distribution activities within the Ogbomoro and Ugolo communities near the Warri metropolis.

“On May 7, operatives of the Area Command, Effurun, carried out a covert operation and arrested the three female suspects.

“A search warrant was executed at their hideout on River Road where operatives recovered 21 bottles of CSC Codeine and two canisters of nitrous oxide popularly known as laughing gas,” he said.

The police spokesperson disclosed that additional items recovered during the raid included two packs of suspected psychoactive chewing gum branded as “Highness Gum”.

He further revealed that operatives also recovered 640 grammes of suspected Canadian Loud concealed in different bags and containers at the location.

Edafe said preliminary investigations had already uncovered the identity of the alleged major supplier connected to the drug network.

He, however, noted that the suspect was currently on the run.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect as well as other members of the alleged syndicate.

The police assured residents that operations against illegal drug trafficking and related criminal activities would continue across the state.
