Guwor undergoes affirmation as APC holds Delta Assembly primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted its primaries for the Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday, May 20, 2026.

In Warri South-West, the constituency of the incumbent Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the party held an affirmation exercise as he was the only aspirant for the seat.

Affirmation is required under APC guidelines and INEC regulations to validate an unopposed candidate’s emergence through an established party process.

APC delegates across the 10 wards voted in their localities to affirm Guwor as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election for the State Assembly.

The exercise was supervised by the Returning Officer for the primary in the local government area, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, alongside party officials at the ward level.

Guwor, who voted in Gbaramatu Ward 4, later converged at the collation center in Ogbe-Ijoh with other APC stalwarts, including Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, Commissioner Sam Oligida, Hon. Daniel Mayuku, and Bosin Ebikeme.

Results from the 10 wards were collated and announced at the center.

In his reaction after the announcement, the Speaker said: “This affirmation is not about one man, but about the will of our people and the unity of our party.

”I am humbled by the trust reposed in me by the party in Warri South-West. It is a call for more service with greater dedication, humility, and accountability.

”Our focus remains on delivering dividends of democracy to every community in this constituency”.

Guwor, who also chairs the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said the outcome reflected the APC’s solid strength in Delta State.

“What we are witnessing today is the consolidation of a political family that puts people first.

”The APC in Warri South-West is united, and we are ready to secure a resounding victory for the party in 2027. This is about continuity, stability, and development for our people”, he added.

Party stakeholders described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, and commended the party leadership for its efforts to secure 100% votes for APC candidates in 2027.

Rt. Hon. Ereyitomi, who represents Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the seamless process showed the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

Hon. Mayuku, Ebikeme, and Oligida added that the affirmation had set the tone for a vigorous campaign ahead of 2027.

“Warri South-West is and remains one big family in the overall interest of the people”, they said.
