Police promise peaceful Ekiti governorship Election

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has restated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, working in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), to ensure a peaceful, secure, free and credible governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Police disclosed that comprehensive operational and deployment arrangements have been concluded across Ekiti State’s 16 local government areas, 154 wards and more than 2,400 polling units.
According to the statement, personnel and security assets have been strategically positioned to safeguard voters, electoral officials, observers and other stakeholders throughout the election period.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said in a statement that the Inspector-General assured stakeholders of the Police’s professionalism and neutrality before, during and after the election.
He also urged political actors to strictly adhere to the Peace Accord and ensure that their activities remain peaceful and within the bounds of the law.
Residents of Ekiti State were further encouraged to come out and exercise their civic rights without fear, with assurances of adequate security coverage before, during and after the polls.
The statement noted that the Inspector-General of Police participated in the Election Stakeholders’ Meeting and the signing of the Peace Accord ahead of the governorship election in Ado-Ekiti.
The meeting brought together key electoral and political stakeholders, including representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), political parties, candidates, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious leaders, security agencies, as well as members of the diplomatic and observer community.
The Police leadership commended INEC and the National Peace Committee for their sustained efforts in promoting peaceful democratic participation and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
It particularly praised General Abdulsalami Abubakar for his continued commitment to peace, national unity, and democratic stability in the country.
