APC ratifies Oborevwori’s unopposed re-election bid

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has formally ratified Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s unopposed bid as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision followed the conduct of direct primaries held across the 25 local government areas of the state, despite the governor running without opposition.

Party officials and stakeholders gathered at the APC state secretariat collation centre in Asaba, where results were announced and validated.

Declaring the outcome, Mr Vita Okafor, Chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Delta and Returning Officer for the governorship primary, said Oborevwori polled a total of 345,375 votes across the state.

He praised the governor’s performance in office, noting that his policies and programmes had positively impacted residents and strengthened the party’s standing in the state.

“I, Sir Vita Okafor, Chairman Governorship Primary Election Committee, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Delta State Governorship Primary Election, held on May 21, 2026.

“The aspirant, Gov. Shariff Oborevwori scored a total of 345,375 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the primary election.

“He is also returned as the party governorship candidate in Delta State for the 2027 general elections,” Okafor said.

Returning officers from the 25 local government areas had earlier presented results from wards across the state before the final collation.

Also speaking, the Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, commended party members for what he described as successful and peaceful primaries, noting that the outcome reflected internal unity within the party.

He urged members to sustain the momentum and replicate the same success in the 2027 general elections.

The exercise was attended by key stakeholders, including the state deputy governor, Monday Onyeme, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, and other senior party figures present at the collation centre.
