Fubara vows completion of key projects

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to complete all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state despite the current political climate.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection tour of the new Airport Road Bypass project in Port Harcourt, where he disclosed that construction work had attained about 65 per cent completion.
Fubara stated that his administration remains focused on governance and the delivery of people-oriented projects that will improve economic activities and the standard of living of residents.
According to him, recent political developments would not distract his government from fulfilling its promises to the people of Rivers State.
“I want to assure our people that regardless of the situation, every good project we have started will continue and will be completed by the grace of God. We are in high spirits and remain committed to putting Rivers first,” the governor said.
He explained that the Airport Road Bypass was conceived as a strategic alternative route to ease movement around the Port Harcourt International Airport and prevent disruptions often caused by community protests along the major highway.
The governor noted that in the past, disagreements between host communities and airport authorities frequently led to blockades on the airport road, a situation he described as harmful to the state’s economy and public movement.
“We have always experienced situations where communities, out of dissatisfaction with certain actions of airport authorities, block the airport road.
”In today’s society, such actions are no longer necessary because they negatively affect economic activities in the state,” he said.
Fubara added that his administration engaged with affected communities before initiating the bypass project as a long-term solution to ensure uninterrupted access to the airport corridor.
The governor, who was taken round the construction site by contractors handling the project, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work already achieved.
He also disclosed that the entire bypass project is expected to be completed and delivered before October 2026.
The inspection formed part of the administration’s ongoing monitoring of critical infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation, easing traffic flow, and boosting economic development in Rivers State.
