Nwoko seeks review of APC primary result

Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta) has petitioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primaries Appeal Committee, seeking a review of the outcome of the May 18 Delta North Senatorial District primary election.

The Legal Adviser to the senator, Dr Chris Okobah, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the APC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Johnbull Tonukari, declared Dr Okowa winner of the exercise after polling 113,309 votes.

He also announced that Nwoko scored 2,612 votes, while Ms Ali polled 40 votes in the primary conducted across the senatorial district.

Okobah alleged that what was expected to be a democratic exercise was marred by manipulation, intimidation, vote buying, violence and deliberate obstruction of voters’ choices.

He claimed that video evidence exists to support the allegations and warned that the senator may approach the court if the appeal committee fails to address the issues raised.

“Sen. Ned Nwoko remains the clear choice of the people. The truth cannot be buried by forged figures. The people’s mandate cannot be stolen by intimidation, violence, or state-sponsored manipulation,” he said.

He added that the election should be rejected in its entirety and called for a comprehensive review of the process.

“We therefore reject this election in its entirety. We demand a full review of the process, the cancellation of all manipulated results, and accountability for everyone involved in this shameful assault on democracy,” he stated.

Okobah further said Anioma deserves credible democratic processes, insisting that the election outcome did not reflect the will of the people.

“Anioma deserves democracy, not deception. Anioma deserves justice, not intimidation. Anioma deserves truth, not political robbery,” he said.
He warned that history would judge those who failed to defend democratic values.

“History will remember those who stood with the people when democracy was under attack,” he added.

The APC is expected to review the petition through its primaries appeal mechanism in the coming days.
