Fubara fixes 2027 deadline for secretariat project

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, says the ongoing reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex will be completed by the first quarter of 2027.

Fubara made the declaration on Monday after inspecting the massive renovation project at the State Secretariat Complex in Old GRA, Port Harcourt.

The governor said he returned to the site to personally assess the level of work, especially the interior sections of the buildings.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded and assured residents that his administration would complete all ongoing projects.

“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I wanted to confirm how much work is going on inside,” Fubara stated.

He added that, by the grace of God, the project would be handed over to the government in the first quarter of next year.

The Rivers State Secretariat Complex was originally built in the 1970s shortly after the creation of Rivers State in 1967.

The facility includes the 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block and three additional seven-storey buildings known as Blocks A, B and C.

The ongoing reconstruction involves structural rehabilitation, upgraded office spaces and installation of modern facilities across the complex.

Officials said the project would provide a more efficient, technology-driven and conducive work environment for civil servants in the state.
