NDC opens Enugu governorship ticket to all aspirants

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has declared its governorship ticket open to all qualified aspirants, stating that it has not adopted any zoning arrangement for the 2027 election.

The party leadership, led by Dr. Johnpaul Anih, said it has not reserved the governorship position for any particular senatorial zone, stressing that the decision was aimed at widening participation and strengthening its chances at the polls.

According to the party, the move is intended to attract competent candidates capable of winning elections and unseating the ruling APC in the state.

The position was reaffirmed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ugwueze, who spoke to journalists over the weekend after a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC).

He stated that any qualified indigene of Enugu State is eligible to contest for the party’s governorship ticket, regardless of senatorial district.

“This decision aligns with the party’s determination to win the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State and to achieve that, we are not going to sacrifice capacity on the altar of zoning,” Ugwueze said.

He added that the party’s focus remains on securing victory in the 2027 elections, describing the state’s seat of power as the “Lion Building,” which the party is determined to capture.

“Capturing the Lion Building is our major target and we have to exploit every available option and strategy,” he said.
