Oborevwori seeks equal opportunities for children

 

Gôvernor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has urged Nigerians to build a caring society where every child feels included and supported.

The governor made the call during the commemoration of the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration on Wednesday, in Asaba.

Represented by the Dep. Gov. Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori said the 2026 theme, ”Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child”, reminds
reminds us that every child matters and deserves equal opportunity to learn, ”

He stressed that children deserved access to education, healthcare and protection, regardless of gender, background or physical condition.

“Children’s Day is a time to celebrate our children, who remain the pride and future of our state and nation,” he said.

The governor added that no child should feel abandoned, rejected or denied opportunities to succeed in life.

“As parents, teachers and leaders, we must create a supportive society where every child can grow and thrive,” he stated.

Oborevwori urged residents of the state to encourage children living with disabilities and recognise their talents and abilities.

He praised the efforts of the ”You Matter Charity Foundation” a pet project of his wife, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, for supporting children with autism and special needs across the state.

The governor also highlighted the achievement of 15-year-old Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who earned a Guinness World Record through autism awareness art.

“His achievement proves that disability is never inability when children receive love, support and opportunity,” he said.

Oborevwori advised children to remain focused on education, respect their parents and teachers, and work hard toward their dreams.

He assured residents of the state that his administration would continue investing in programmes promoting child welfare through the ‘MORE Agenda’.

In her remarks, Mrs Pat Ajudua, State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, praised the state government for implementing programmes that promote the wellbeing and protection of children.

She said the administration has continued to introduce policies aimed at improving the lives of children and creating better opportunities for their growth and development.

The event featured a colourful march-past by pupils and students from public and private schools across the state.

The celebration also featured the ceremonial cutting of the Children’s Day anniversary cake during the event.
