Omo-Agege quits APC amid Delta crisis

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.

Omo-Agege had earlier contested the APC senatorial primary for Delta Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In that exercise, Sen. Ede Dafinone was declared winner and as the party’s candidate.

Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta, according to a statement issued by his Media, Mr Sunday Areh.

The statement was made available to Hensard Times on Wednesday in Asaba.

Omo-Agege said recent developments within the APC in Delta influenced his decision after consultations with political associates and supporters.

The former Delta Central senator stated that his political goals and those of his constituents would be better pursued outside the ruling party.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he said.

Omo-Agege thanked the APC for giving him the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate.

“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate.

“I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he said.

The former lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to development and effective representation for Delta Central, Senatorial district and Nigeria.

He stated that he would continue pursuing those objectives outside the APC.
